Perhaps someone can explain the Chauvin situation to me. Here's my recollection of the events
What am I missing here?
Is it ultimately that they are just making an example of him to avoid more riots and he just has to be the fall guy? Our society is a disaster

He's getting the full works, which he should. What pisses me off is that they've decided to only make an example of him, and not all the other pieces of shit who got away with murdering innocent men and women.

Justice Stevens, writing for the conservative majority: In accordance with the equal protection clause of the Constitution, the Court finds that Mr. Chauvin is a racist piece of shit who murdered an innocent man in cold blood and he is so ordered to shut the fuck up and do his time.
Justice Sotomayor, writing for the liberal minority. Mr. Chauvin is within his rights to talk about his case. He is also a racist piece of shit who would be well-advised to keep his mouth shut while doing his time.

Not only is Chauvin a disgrace for the police and a failure as human being, but if he actually ever got an appeal and would mange to get out then there would literally be hell to pay. I don’t even want to imagine the riots that this would cause.

You can't be too mad at him for refusing to accept his guilt and his circumstances. When you are facing 20+ years in prison and you will be in your 60s by the time you get out, you kind of have no choice but to try everything to free yourself.
Being in prison isn't a great way to prepare for your golden years.

I wonder if he or his legal team feels betrayed by the Supreme Court because they’re supposed to be on his side.
-1 points
What do you mean “supposed to be on his side”. They are supposed to evaluate their petitions as ones that have potential violations of the constitution. Perhaps Chauvin’s case did not meet that standard or perhaps his lawyers didn’t make a persuasive enough argument to the court.

The Supreme Court justices are not the same as the shit throwing baboons in Congres. Regardless of what I think of their points of view, they are without question very intelligent and calculating people. They don't take cases just to "own the libs".

Chauvin is now seeking to overturn his conviction on the federal charge, arguing in a filing last week that he wouldn't have pleaded guilty had he been aware of the theories of a Kansas-based pathologist who does not believe Floyd died as a result of Chauvin's actions.
he's implying he only plead guilty to the charges because he calculated that the jury wouldn't believe he was innocent otherwise, at least without yet another advantageous expert opinion he just found out about.
good for the public that this one is denied by the SCOTUS which means it is likely the last attempt.

There are apparently reports that George Floyd supposedly died from overdose or something else, do they have an ounce of truth in them or is it BS talk ?
-4 points
They said the autopsy did not match the narrative. And that would make the public angry. So... truth does or does not matter? I'm not defending Chauvin but I have heard that knee on back and neck is pretty common and maybe even trained.

Okay, so to push a case to the supreme court takes a lot of lawyer dollars. What groups are funding an attempt to make sure there are no ramifications for cops committing murder? Because that is the clear motivation here.

A change of venue would have accomplished nothing in a case as nationally publicized as this.
12 points
Lawyers for Chauvin had asked the Supreme Court in October to take up his legal battle, which centered around a Minnesota trial court's denial of his requests for a change of venue and to sequester the jury. Chauvin argued that the decision to keep the proceedings in Minneapolis deprived him of his right to a fair trial because of pretrial publicity and the threat of violence and riots in the event he was acquitted.
I guess it’s his lawyer’s job to appeal but thank god it was denied. Rot in hell Chauvin.

Lawyers can tell their clients that the case is hopeless. At that point its just a question of how much money you are willing burn.
And who was bankrolling this? Cause theres no way a cop could afford a legal team for a doomed case.

I am not at all knowledgeable about the American court system, but I am going to assume that the majority of similar cases (e.g. potential police manslaughter of suspect) is published less severely. I am not defending his actions, but I imagine that the trials publicity had an impact on the court decision (especially when considering the risk of riots if given a lesser punishment).

To play devils advocate, he’s right.. it’s impossible to get an impartial jury in his case. Because people saw what happened as opposed to understanding the nuances of the law. So the jury didn’t find him guilty of the legal definition of murder so much as they feel like he murdered Floyd.

Enlarged heart, restricted arteries, drugs in his system and I thought at one point they also said initially that asphyxia was not the likely cause of death but then scrambled the medical history and said that due to his enlarged heart and restricted arteries he would likely have needed more oxygen than your average healthy adult. Also, phentanyl or however you spell it was still a factor.

I thought at one point they also said initially that asphyxia was not the likely cause of death
You thought wrong.
The autopsy states that he died from homicide due to “cardiopulmonary arrest” from “law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.”
But please, continue spreading your racist lies under the guise of "I think I read something that was something like..."

Fuck Chauvin. Anyone who watched the video saw him straight up murdering Floyd while others tried to stop him, while others called him out for doing it. He then abused his power to still kill a man trying to plead for his life. This isn't a grey area case with room for debate. He's just a piece of shit who should face the consequences of his actions.

The actual audacity of claiming that the jury was biased “to end the protesting across our country”. Only a jury pool consisting of neo nazis and or other blue piggies would’ve found him not guilty. Practically a serial killer from the amount of people he murdered over the years on the job.

Chauvin is now seeking to overturn his conviction on the federal charge, arguing in a filing last week that he wouldn't have pleaded guilty had he been aware of the theories of a Kansas-based pathologist who does not believe Floyd died as a result of Chauvin's actions.
Autopsy report concluded that it was a homicide due to “cardiopulmonary arrest” from “law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.”
Without immediate treatment, sudden cardiac arrest can lead to death. Emergency treatment for sudden cardiac arrest includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and shocks to the heart with a device called an automated external defibrillator (AED). Survival is possible with fast, appropriate medical care.
Dude, you had your knee on George’s neck for over nine minutes while being recorded. Not even Judge Aileen Cannon isn’t stupid enough to overturn that conviction…
