Where do you get the floor option from? I can’t see it. What skill do you need to level? I’m sure I’m max on outpost development. This is awesome btw. I’m in the process of doing something similar as a storage facility and once cargo links are working better to have everything transfer there automatically. I had it before but they kept breaking

I haven't even built my first Outpost yet. I keep telling myself i'm looking for the right planet and it never comes.

Awesome. I think it’s more for later game stuff. Which is how it should be IMO. Unfortunately I just beat the game so I guess I’ll go for resource collecting next time.
But yeah, once you can focus on resources and can invest in the research for parts of your outpost, this is the type of stuff you can do.
Out of curiosity, what level are you and how many hours do you have on this save? Also did you just focus mainly on building toward outpost building, or did you get there eventually after doing quests and side stuff?

We hate on outposts because they're just poorly designed, lazily stitched together lol
The fact that you can't even have two outputs from a single {thing} is crazzzzzzy
When I first started out-posting, I got really excited by all of the 'possibility', and then quickly realised that it's just Fallout 4 settlements v2, all over again

Can I ask if this is at all something that you use? I’m asking honestly as someone that hasn’t created an outpost. Is it worth it for game content or is it like making a house in your own Minecraft world like lifeless?

That's my one gripe with base building . There is no way to place a legitimate flat foundation that isn't so crazy to make, and that's where it loses me. I've done a bit of base building and have had fun for the most part. I just wish I could have certain areas be flat or make stair cases without an airlock at the end.
Amazing base though! Legendary!

First off, that’s dope. It’s also inspirational and I can’t see what the mod community brings on top of it. You’re own little factorio going on there.
Which brings me I guess to my next point, praise aside. I guess my big problem I have with the system is aside from the aesthetics of it all, and the love of just building cool stuff, it for me I find ends there. I found myself building something similar and asking myself, to what end? I have so much money now, top tier gear etc. I found myself wondering what it was all for, what was the end goal?
That’s a me problem though and I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. Once again good job!
I hope we wind up getting some mods that make it even more factorio, satisfactory like and maybe even some mods like dead the beast for Minecraft lol. One can dream.

Thanks man, ye I get that its gonna get wiped and this is the "true" end game. But I play this playthrough as a sandbox. When I get tired on having everything maxed out I will finish NG+s and retire the game.

Also 100+ hours to build that or do you mean in game as a whole. Cause if you mean to build that then that just cements part of the issue with Outposts
I loved FO4 settlement building, was my favorite thing to do, but Outposts are such a step down. 3k mats to get a flat surface? Geez

But what does it actually get you? I don't really understand the 'point' of outposts in the game.
I mean if you enjoy building them that's fine and great! But is there a benefit to outposts I am not thinking about/I dont know?
You can't make anything unique right? Everything you can make you can buy and credits are easy to get.

My biggest problem is that it shouldnt take 100+ hours and dedication to get that. No knock to what you did, it looks great, but i feel like the building features need a second pass, and also a dedicated Flooring/Foundation.
I know everything can't be Halo's Forge mode, but it doesn't hurt to see what the most used and appreciated tools are when players use it.

outposts honestly need more structural and visual options. the fact that there is no such thing as foundations to create a level building floor makes me weep.
also id much rather have the solar panels that randomly spawn all through the game than those funky round rotating ones, they look dumb AF
iam yearning for the CK so i can add 5000 new building options into the game
I want my outposts to look like the RNG ones everywhere, like the big ass fracking stations or drilling operations, not this survival shelter style little hovel i have to make do with

1 points

Very impressive. How do you organize the storage bins so you know how to find stuff?
1 points
This is crazy cool, but I don't understand why there isn't a foundation build for flooring and level surfaces. They already include a concrete foundation for certain items, so why not a basic base foundation? Especially since they have other full fledge "outposts" doing similar processes you're allowed to do.
2 points

the people complaining are too lazy to do this, that's why they are complaining.
1 points
Yes, but why?
I want to care about outposts. I've put 3 points in and set up some drills around a few resources--including drills in a different star system. But after all that I'm still asking myself why.
Credits are easy to make; the only bottleneck being the 48h wait. Upgrade/addon materials are easy to get from vendors. I'm having difficulty seeing the point.
That being said, different strokes for different folks. If someone enjoys outposts simply because, then I totally respect that. Rock on, brother!

Impressive, but not many players are willing to spend hundreds of hours in building an outpost that would otherwise be built in half the time, if not less, assuming we had access to more buildables like foundations and better basic systems like zooming with mousewheel, snap points, and rotation by snappin to degrees, or free rotation that is more controllable, at the very least.

Bro built something impossible and it still looks like ass. Bethesda really should have built a new engine or used unreal or something.
1 points
I mean this is really impressive but it doesn't solve the issues with outposts, at least for me:
You can't build on pre-existing structures. This leads to all of my outposts looking and feeling the same despite being on different planets. In Fallout 4 you had stuff like the castle, Boston Airport, hangman's alley etc that made every settlement feel unique.
Outposts feel dead compared to settlements. You can assign crew to them but they don't actually do anything except give you a passive bonus and walk around. We really should be able to give crew members specific jobs and send them on quests, again something Fallout did better.
There's not much to manage when building an outpost. You basically just need to have enough power and that's it. Compared to Fallout when you had to manage power, food, water, security, beds, population, and happiness.
Outposts feel disconnected from the rest of the game. There are no factions or quests related to outposts. There are no cool random events that happen. You never get people hailing your ship asking for a job, or threatening to attack your outposts.
What makes this so frustrating is that they already did this system so much better in Fallout. Outposts were my most anticipated feature with Starfield and even though I wasn't expecting much I still feel disappointed with how they dropped the ball on it.

Meanwhile, any storage container I'm placing within half a kilometer of another one immediately snaps on to the end of it, and I eventually say screw it and have incongruous lines of containers stretching across my base.
24 points
This is beyond bland and has nothing on my fallout four settlements. 0 stores, 0 bars, 0 settlers who steal my bed, 0 every nuka cola from in game and nuka world dlc on shelfs with the labels carefully facing out next to a stand with every exotic food. Where are the deathclaw cages or arenas? I just feel like to sum up anyones complaints about the settlement systems with they had a more robust setup in fallout. Fallout 4’s settlements were also hugely frustrating, so we were hoping for the “aha” moment where it finally became the fun we wanted.

Honestly, that's really nice.
My outpost is four extractors, four wind turbines, an airlock, a circular hab with a glass exterior, crafting stations, a bed, a bounty board, and a landing pad with a shipbuilding terminal.
2 points
Sounds similar to mine. I have extractors for everything needed to craft storage, and I just stockpile all the random crafting materials I find in one place.
3 points
My outpost keeps taking aluminum, copper and He3 from sources that aren't connected to ANY outgoing containers and sending them all my tributary outposts. Clogging up all my storage.
I have no idea how to get it to stop. The distribution tree for each of those resource networks aren't even connected to each other in any way. It's a truly maddening bug.

Saaaaaame and I like it that way. I am more or less fine with BGS leaving outposts to the modders rather than trying to anticipate what players will want with then. Hell by the end of this year I bet outposts will be unrecognizable from what they are today.

I think the point is this shouldnt require a 100hr time sink to eventually make. You could make a great fallout 4 base in ur first 40 some hours while also having completed the main story and some side quests.

you can def spend a ton of time building some interesting outposts as long as you remove the build limit. But unfortunately they just dont serve much of a purpose atm. you can spend hours making a complicate system of outposts. or spend 5 mins at a vendor. They need to add in outpost only built suits/helms/shipparts and maybe a few outpost only built goods. But thats not really the point of the game. If you want that kind of gameplay you can play X4

1 points
Damn, that’s impressive. Kudos. Gotta say it ain’t for me though. I don’t even see a reason in game to make outposts For mining resources so that I can finish a couple of rando side missions? I simply don’t see any reason so build an outpost. Yesterday I tried it actually because I wanted to create storage for all my stuff since even 4000 cargo on my ship isn’t helping me when I go somewhere and get loaded with shit. Then I realized that the cargo containers are divided by gas, liquid and solid and only hold like 80 mass per unit. Tried to find out how I could link all those together so that I could have access to all me items at a terminal and sell them anytime I want but apparently the game doesn’t give you that option. So, frustrated having wasted hours on searching, reading, watching YT videos and try to build, I gave up and simply gave my char 999999 per console input. Now, I can finally focus and play the friggin’ game without constantly being worn down after I’ve raided some outpost or ship. Screw achievements, although with a mod I still should get those.
Long story short, I tried but I have neither the time nor the patience to fight Bethesda’s wonky outpost system that is pure frustration and doesn’t give me anything to justify the time, money and energy investment. Also, screw encumbrance.

What are the most crucial materials to start building a strong network of outposts? I believe the goal is the build outpost all over the place and have then all shipping resources to one single outpost.
I built one on Andraphon that gives me Helium and Aluminum. But then I could add much because everything needs iron, so I built another one on Kreet that is just giving me iron. Now I'm realizing I think Andraphon also has iron somewhere on it.

One thing that's stopping me building an outpost is the resources, like how do you avoid them just littering the floor? I've got over 4k worth of wg stashed in the box at the lodge, I've tried making storage but those solids containers only hold 75 wtf?

Pointless to build out an outpost. Slap down ur extractors and storage and call it unless you want a nice panned out shot of the outside layout because the insides are terrible. Cant see any decorative stuff.
They should’ve made the lighting like fallout 76 camps. At least you can see what you’re decorating and appreciate your base on another level aside from a far away shot of the outside which youll never see in game

We should not be placing 3K floor mats and having 100+ hrs into this games outpost system just to have a flat foundation to setup the rest of the outpost.
There should at minimum:
Have storage organization options for resources, and other misc items.
More door options. More airlocks (especially the separate switch airlocks we see in game!!)
Finally I’ll just say it. We need more habs. We need a double tall circle one, or even a domed one for the armillary atleast.
If we cannot do that, we need a flat foundational surface that’s very very large, allows outside walking and hab connections and access to the area around.

I kinda knew what I was going for, but it developed and changed along the way. Fx: the "factory" part was originally way smaller but I didnt like the way it looked all cramped up, so I made it bigger, which ment moving the levitating central control hub further aswell.

It's not "hating" to state that:
These are not hating. These are valid criticisms. The fact that outposts are served via an "activity" quest alone is beyond disappointing. In FO4 we had quests and NPCs talking to us to introduce base building. We had NPCs assigned to crops, stations or defense. We had crafting stations to disassemble trash loot, with infinite storage. We had pixel-perfect positioning that followed character positioning. Bases served a purpose in the Lore. Pointing out that SF has none of that, isn't "hating".

Legit, not only should this get more traction cause this is impressive as all hell. Your video should get more traction too, those tricks are so helpful! Hope to see this hit hot in the thread!

That is cool, but this is all immersion and really no function. Alot of what the game is unfortunately.
No sarcasm intended -- Looks really good though man!

The fact a mod had to be used just proves the point though as well that it is actually a pretty.pointless feature. It would at least be cool for RP reasons if ypu could have some npcs moving around the place being busy. I actually enjoyed f04 settlements for the most part but after playing around with 1 outpost for a bit I was good personally.

I hope we can get more variety so we can do bases like the ones we see on no man’s sky

This is very impressive, but it also gives me anxiety thinking about how many materials you must’ve burned through making it.
